This qualification prepares learners to set up a home based childcare setting as a registered childminder. It is also suitable for learners who wish to be employed in home based childcare settings as childminding assistants or other home childcarers (eg nannies, au pairs).

Entry Requirement
- Learners must be at least 19 years old.

Course Content
- The qualification takes approximately 12 weeks to complete.
- The course prepares learners to work in home-based childcare as registered childminders, childminding assistants, nannies, au pairs or similar home childcarers. The mandatory content covers childcare legislation and regulation, safeguarding, child protection, health and safety, equality and inclusion, children’s daily care routines, partnership working, learning and development, play and observation. Learners then select optional content concerning either setting up a home-based childcare business, including registration, finance, taxation and business planning, or exploring the responsibilities, expectations and professional support associated with working as a nanny.

To gain this Qualification the learner will need to achieve the following
- Learners must pass two units in total:
- Mandatory Unit 1: Preparing to Work as a Home Based Childcarer, worth 5 credits.
- One optional unit, worth 1 credit, selected from:
- Preparing to Set Up a Home Based Childcare Business, or
- Exploring the Role of the Nanny.
This produces the required 6 credits overall.
