NCFE CACHE Level 1 Award in an Introduction to Early Years Settings QRN: 500/9747/7
This is a Level 1 QCF qualification allowing learners to gain a basic knowledge of childcare in early years environments. It is aimed at volunteers and parents wishing to work in early years settings and for those who are new to working in the sector.
The Award covers working with children up to the age of 5 years and includes topics such as the value of play, roles and responsibilities of carers and volunteers, and the importance of developing links in the local community.
Entry Requirement
- Learners must be at least 19 years old.
- NCFE does not specify previous qualifications, grades or prior childcare experience as mandatory entry requirements.
Course Content
- Total Qualification Time: 12 weeks.
- This qualification provides a basic introduction to childcare provision in early years settings for children from birth to five years and eleven months. Learners study the importance of play in children’s learning and development, how early years settings are managed and organised, safeguarding and health and safety responsibilities, and the roles of staff, carers and volunteers. Depending on the optional unit selected, learners also study community involvement or team roles and responsibilities within an early years setting.
To gain this Qualification the learner will need to achieve the following
- Learners must pass three units in total:
Two mandatory units
- The value of play for babies and young children
- Management and organisation in an early years setting
One of the two optional units
- Introduction to community development in early years settings; or
- Roles and responsibilities in an early years setting
